No Colour Needed

We’ve spent the past six months buried under countless layers of clothing but with spring officially here it’s time to start building our warm-weather wardrobes. When it comes to making the leap from winter to spring, people seem to automatically turn to  patterns and pastel colours. We're suggesting the opposite. Rather than crowding your wardrobe with seasonal colours and motifs why not focus your spring purchases on staple items that will carry you from season to season?

By default, people associate warm weather with colour, however, we think that there is something infinitely modern and crisp about a black and white wardrobe. It’s clean, no-fuss and makes getting dressed in the morning exponentially easier. Monochromatic looks can be easily updated by introducing on-trend accessories that will help elevate a simple outfit. We love the Mondaine EVO 40mm watch for its classic design and black hardware that gives the timepiece a more casual, edgy look.

Everyone needs a staple black handbag in their closet. The Principle Goods Atlantic Tote is the perfect everyday handbag that transitions seamlessly from season to season. The discrete design and delicate details make it an easy bag to pair with just about any outfit. The tote is generously sized, large enough for daily essentials and a laptop. The Rhine Clutch, also by Principle Goods, is a great way to keep smaller items like makeup, cards or coins organized within the larger tote. The Rhine Clutch can be purchased here.

Another spring/summer essential is a pair of black sunnies. Karen Walker released her arrow collection this year, which includes frames in a wide range of new shapes and sizes. Jess is photographed wearing One Orbit in black ($400.00 CAD.)

Securing an assortment of core jewellery pieces is another way to make the transition from one season to the next. Choosing pieces that layer well in a variety of lengths allows you to adapt to whichever neckline is currently trending that season.

Hats are one of our favourite transitional accessories. They can be worn year-round and instantly add interest to a simple and understated outfit. If you’re new to the hat game start off with something black or grey and classic in style. A soft brim lends itself to a more causal, relaxed feel while stiff brims are a little bit more stark and contemporary.
